Single Crown

GOLD, CERAMOMETAL or ALL-PORCELAIN CROWNS
When a tooth has a large cavity or has been treated by a root canal, the structural integrity of that tooth is compromised. A crown may be necessary to save that tooth with the least amount of problems long-term. When discussing the type of crowns available to be placed, there are options to be considered.
A Full-Gold Crown:
This is a great option and considered ‘The Gold Standard’ due to longevity and prognosis. The margins that seal the tooth are very thin and protect the crown from leakage and resulting decay. With gold, there no very little chance of fracture, and the biting surface wears extremely well over time. For areas that are not visible, this is the treatment option of choice.
Ceramo-Metal Crown:
On back teeth where aesthetics are and issue, porcelain crowns with a gold substructure are the treatment of choice. The gold structure underneath the porcelain adds strength and yet provides a great seal around the edges of the crown thereby preventing leakage and thus cavities underneath. These restorations are very natural looking and are proven to be long lasting.
All-Porcelain Crown:
These crowns are the best aesthetic option. A white zirconium substructure supports the porcelain, and helps to prevent porcelain fracture. Nobel Biocare Procera crowns are manufactured using a high-tech optical scanner and converted to an electronic file and transmitted to a manufacturing facility. Once the substructure is milled, it is returned to our laboratory technician who then adds the aesthetic porcelain. The only caveat for these restorations is the marginal gap which is much larger than their gold or ceramo-metal counterpart.
Bridges

GOLD, CERAMOMETAL, OR ALL-PORCELAIN BRIDGES
A bridge replaces a single or multiple missing teeth. Healthy teeth on either side of the tooth that is missing are prepared in order for the fixed prosthetic to be glued in place. Bridges histroically have a lifespan of about 10 years before they will need replacement.
An alternative to a bridge is implant placement. This treatment avoids the shaving down of the adjacent teeth, and once successfully completed, a single-unit implant may last considerably longer than a bridge with minimal replacement. Research is showing that once integrated, an implant may last a lifetime!
Veneers
PORCELAIN VENEERS
Veneers are a great restorative option for teeth that are structurally intact. They can correct misalignment, staining due to developmental defects such as Tetracycline Staining or Enamel Defects. Cosmetic improvement of imperfections in front teeth is easily accomplished with veneers.
The type of recommended restoration depends primarily on the extent of the defect to be corrected, and the underlying tooth structure. Since the finishing margin must lie in structurally sound enamel for a good prognosis long-term, it is important that no fillings or caries exist between the teeth. If there are problems between the teeth, then a more aggressive restoration (3/4 crown, or Full Crown) is indicated.
Recent advances in materials have produced super-strong ultra-thin material for veneers to be made out of. Lumineers and Vivaneers are examples of these products. The benefit to you is the preservation of your natural structure bacause a minimal amount of tooth reduction (minimal drilling) is necessary to produce a spectacular smile.
